Dr. Meier, Owner/Pet Vet of Leon Valley Veterinary Hospital
Edmund Meier, Jr. is the owner of Leon Valley Veterinary Hospital. Edmund knew he wanted to be a veterinarian from the time he was a small boy, raising a menagerie of animals from sheep and goats to chickens and pigeons. Growing up a half-mile from the hospital, Edmund brought all of his animals for treatment here.
It was no surprise, then, when he graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science in 1988, and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. After obtaining his DVM, he went to work for the owner and eventually bought Leon Valley Veterinary Hospital, his home-away-from-home, in March 2001.
Dr. Meier tells us about his hobbies outside of work:
My interests include Indian artifact hunting, which provides good wholesome family fun. It is also calming and can be quite an adventure! I also take pleasure in hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. My favorite way of relaxing is tending to my homegrown garden, so my family and I can enjoy the fruits of our labor.
A new activity that I take pride in is raising pigs with my children. We enjoy competing together at the 4-H and FFA levels, and we are showing pigs on the national level, as well.
Dr. Meier describes his home life:
I have been happily married to my lovely wife, Susan, for the past 20 years. We have three amazing children, who are already in, or approaching, their teen years: Trevor, Brandon, and Allyson.
Our four-legged family members are: Tito, a Chihuahua mix; Bandit, a Yorkie mix; Milo, a Chihuahua; Cam, a Chihuahua; and Faith and Tickle, our Labrador retrievers.
